The head of the Free State agriculture department has emerged as accused number one in the Vrede dairy farm case, but provincial Premier Ace Magashule and former agriculture MEC Mosebenzi Zwane have not been charged.

Peter Thabethe, who is still the agriculture department head, has been charged with two counts of fraud and contravening the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)for his role in allowing the dairy farm near Vrede to move ahead despite irregularities, according to the charge sheet that implicates 10 other people in the matter. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Opposition parties react to Zuma’s resignation

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it is “rejoicing” at the news that Jacob Zuma has resigned as president, while the United Democratic Movement says “good riddance”.

Zuma announced on Wednesday evening that, although he does not agree with this decision, he will resign as president of the republic effective immediately.

Ramaphosa’s succession to the highest office in the land was outlined – although in relatively scant detail – by ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule at the party’s Chief Albert Luthuli House headquarters on Tuesday‚ hours after the party held a 13-hour special national executive committee meeting to discuss Zuma’s fate.

Cape Town – The African National Congress (ANC) has decided to recall President Jacob Zuma, ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule announced on Tuesday.

Magashule said that it had communicated a decision to recall Zuma as the country’s head of state, but he has not yet responded.
