The Solidarity trade union has announced that they are continuing with a court application to force the minister of Water Affairs, Lindiwe Sisulu, to cancel her planned import of 24 Cuban water engineers, into South Africa at a cost of R65 million, especially since it was revealed that Sisulu refused to appoint qualified white engineers who have applied for the posts, simply because they were white.

Lindiwe Sisulu, ANC’s minister of Water Affairs, has admitted that white suitably qualified and experienced water engineers have applied for the posts, to which she just imported and appointed 24 Cubans, but that she refused to appoint the white applicants on the basis of them being white. However, having signed the agreement with Cuba for 26 water engineers more than a year ago, (see statement below), she had a handy excuse, so why the racism?

Dali Mpofu, legal representative for Thandi Modise, speaker of parliament, has brought an application for dismissal in the animal abuse case against her, when the case resumed in the Potchefstroom Regional Court, after testimony from a veterinarian and a former employee on her farm was heard yesterday. In a surprising twist, Mpofu asked the court to acquit Modise on the basis of insufficient evidence to link her to the abuse case.

Three elderly sisters, aged 79, 74 and 71 respectively, who stay alone on a farm in the Tierpoort area outside Bloemfontein were attacked and assaulted in their home on Thursday evening 29 April, 2021. A farmer in the area has admitted to Netwerk24 that an informant warned him before the farm attack that the sisters would soon be attacked by the same attackers who stole 60 sheep from him.

Inside Job? Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for 20 awaiting trial prisoners still at large, who escaped from a transfer truck this morning in Pietermaritzburg. Five armed suspects with AK47’s stopped and blocked the vehicle. Police say the transport vehicle, which was being escorted by only two SAPS officers, was carrying 45 inmates who escaped, but 25 inmates are now back in custody.
