Adv. Dali Mpofu, legal representative for Thandi Modise, speaker of parliament, has brought an application for dismissal in the animal abuse case against her, when the case resumed in the Potchefstroom Regional Court, after testimony from a veterinarian and a former employee on her farm was heard yesterday. In a surprising twist, Mpofu asked the court to acquit Modise on the basis of insufficient evidence to link her to the abuse case.

The Once Proud Boer City Nicknamed Rosestad Is No More. Tuesday was the 12th day in which garbage was not collected by the municipality of Bloemfontein, causing mountains of black refuse bags to lie uncollected in the streets in neighborhoods like Pelissier and Lourierpark. Small-scale black farmers close by have been letting their pigs invade the neighbourhoods, ripping open the refuse bags looking for food, leaving a big mess.

Winburg and Kroonstad’s water has become so polluted that it is not possible to purify it with chemicals anymore. The water supplied in the pipe system and coming out of taps in the towns has become so polluted by raw sewage, that it has become impossible to drink because of the serious health hazard.
