Seems like South-Africa’s Health Department has a major cash flow problem – Several Gauteng Doctors, Medical Interns Not Paid January Salaries
Eyewitness News spoke to some interns who say that they were told that their January salaries will only be paid on 28 February.
Several Gauteng medical interns and community service doctors have contacted Eyewitness News claiming that they have not been paid their January salaries.
Eyewitness News has seen WhatsApp messages, emails and memos informing the doctors of this decision.
The doctors have been doing their community service at various hospitals in the province.
Eyewitness News spoke to some interns who say that they were told that their January salaries will only be paid on 28 February.
Medical interns at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital say that they were sent a WhatsApp message a day before payment informing them that due to logistical reasons, payments won’t be made therefore they should make the necessary agreements with their banks.

R27 million of taxpayers money missing in thin air and now KZN’s traditional councils can’t explain how and where it went
KwaZulu-Natal’s traditional authorities have failed to account for more than R11-million in levies collected by the province’s amakhosi from their subjects during the past financial year.
They were also unable to account for more than R15-million in property under their control, according to the 2017-2018 annual report of the Traditional Levies and Trust Account.
The report was submitted to the KwaZulu-Natal legislature this week by the MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube.

Poor accounting systems and a strike by the secretaries of the province’s tribal councils resulted in the auditor general’s office issuing a qualified audit outcome against the entity.

Cash strapped state airline SAA goes on spending spree
Struggling state airline SAA is splurging millions on executives and consulting firms in a spending frenzy that has been described as “worrying”.
Its recently appointed chief executive, Vuyani Jarana, has said the increased expenditure is necessary to address a severe skills shortage.
The Mail & Guardian has established that SAA, which last week received yet another R5‑billion bailout from the treasury, is paying R25‑million to Deutsche Bank in a deal to analyse its financials and restructure its debt.

Treasury open to reviewing zero-rated VAT items
According to Treasury’s budget review document, there are 19 basic food items on the zero-rated list. This includes dried beans, samp, maize meal, rice, milk, tinned pilchards, brown bread, eggs and vegetables, as well as illuminated paraffin.
In its submission, Treasury highlighted findings from the Davis Tax Committee in 2015 that advised that no more zero-rated food items should be considered.

Fuel prices expected to drop by 36 cents
The Automobile Association (AA) has announced that the fuel prices are expected to drop on the 7th March.
Following to the unaudited month-end fuel data released by the Central Energy Fund, the AA said petrol is set to go down by 36 cents, diesel by 47 cents and paraffin by 26 cents.
