The budget for Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini’s royal household has become a sticking point over the years.
As KwaZulu-Natal’s Treasury continues to trim the fat within the provincial fiscus in line with Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s austerity measures, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini’s royal household budget will see an estimated increase of about R9 million over the next three years, bringing his overall budget allocation to R75 million.
KwaZulu-Natal Finance MEC Belinda Scott delivered the provincial Budget for the medium-term expenditure in the Legislature in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday afternoon.
Over R130 billion has been allocated in the fiscus for the 2019/2020 budget period.
The budget for King Zwelithini’s royal household has become a sticking point over the years, with an outcry over what the money for this item in the fiscus gets used for in the face of tough economic challenges.

Grond wat aan plaaslike gemeenskappe toegeken is na ‘n grond-eis is nou die fokus van ‘n twis tussen die eienaars, die staat en die Ingonyama Trust van Zwelithini.
Na die grondeis toegestaan is wil die 30 eienaars van 11,000 hektaar grond, ter waarde van R3 miljard, dit verkoop aan die regering vir R760 miljoen.
Dit staaf die feit dat “die mense” nie grond soek nie, maar eerder geld, en dit word gesien waar eens welvarende plase tot niet gaan sodra die grond oorgedra word aan swart begunstigdes.
Wat die saak verder interessant maak is dat Zwelithini nou die grond opeis as deel van grond beskou wat aan die Zoeloe-nasie behoort aangesien die eienaars onderdane van die Zoeloe koning is.

How the Zulu king’s daughter qualified for low cost government housing is currently under scrutiny. The building was reportedly meant as a “show” house for a R64 million project that will see 1,000 poor people benefit from accommodation equipped with two bedrooms, an open-plan lounge and kitchen, a bathroom and an outside water tank.
Two senior sources involved in the housing scheme told Sunday Times that 28-year-old princess Nqobangothando Zulu has become the project’s first beneficiary after receiving one of the houses, each of which costs almost R130,000.
This has led to questions, as the houses are meant for married people or people with dependants, and the princess herself is still a dependant.
Royal spokesperson Thulani Zulu claims he has not heard of the princess receiving the house.

Fans of South African football club the Kaizer Chiefs rioted after their team lost in the semi-final of the national cup, charging onto the pitch and causing serious injury to a security guard.
The Kaizer Chiefs, One of the most supported clubs in South Africa, were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, going down to a 2-0 defeat to the Free State Stars.
When the final whistle blew at the end of the game, the teams’ fans left their seats and invaded the pitch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, smashing equipment, plastic chairs, cameras and attacking security staff.

King Goodwill Zwelithini will have an honorary doctorate conferred on him by the University of Zululand next month.
In a statement‚ the university said it would be bestowing a doctorate in social work on him to acknowledge his leadership and his contribution to combating social ills.
“We are beyond delighted to be recognising his Royal Highness for his humanitarian endeavours‚” said the university’s vice-chancellor‚ Professor Xoliswa Mtose.
