Former president Jacob Zuma’s rambling monologue on the SABC on Wednesday afternoon wasn’t just an arrogant, delusional act of defiance in the face of the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) instruction to step down as head of state.

It was his final act of working outside the structures of the governing party, and of the state, and of using the resources that his deployment to government had enabled him to pursue his own agenda, often to the detriment of both.

Zuma says there is no reason for him to resign

President Jacob Zuma has revealed in an interview with the SABC there is no compelling reason for him to resign and he is open to negotiation.

Zuma broke his silence this afternoon after the ANC’s National Executive Committee decided to recall him. In the interview he said he never defined the leadership of the ANC.

ANC caucus prepares to remove Zuma from office

The ANC caucus in Parliament will meet on Wednesday to discuss a motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma in case he refuses to step down in line with the ANC’s instruction.

The Mail & Guardian reported on Tuesday that the ANC NEC resolved that it would table its own motion of no confidence if Zuma failed to heed its call to resign.
