The Democratic Alliance’s Federal Executive has announced it has terminated Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille’s party membership.
The decision means that De Lille is no longer the mayor of Cape Town, according to the Municipal Structures Act, and deputy mayor Ian Neilson will now become acting mayor.

In the hours following the Democratic Alliance’s federal congress last weekend, party leaders boasted that the party had emerged more united and diverse than ever, insisting that the party’s detractors would now be silenced.
Indeed the floor at the Tshwane Events Centre was diverse. That same diversity was not reflected in the newly elected leadership. But what was also glaringly absent in the diverse gathering was the rise of a distinct DA identity.

Democratic Alliance (DA) federal executive chairperson James Selfe has said that it was a majority black delegation at the party’s Federal Congress that elected the party’s leadership because it is a capable one.

Cyril Ramaphosa was immediately hailed as a breath of fresh air after the decade-long Jacob Zuma debacle. The nation forgot, or ignored, his role in Marikana while his prowess as a businessman was lauded. A sensible, urbane politician who would save the economy.
His recent Cabinet reshuffle, however, reveals much of the same. The executive remains bloated and, with cronies retaining influence, his reputation for clean governance is shaken. The national conversation, however, has swung to expropriation without compensation.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has rejected President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet reshuffle, saying it was a realignment of corrupt and “delinquent” ministers.
In a statement, EFF national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said the changes were not in the best interests of South Africans.

ANC deputy president David Mabuza will be the next deputy president of South Africa once he is sworn in as an MP. In a televised address to the nation on Monday evening, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced major changes to Cabinet, signalling a reversal of some of former president Jacob Zuma’s most controversial Cabinet appointments.
Ramaphosa also announced that Nhlanhla Nene would be appointed as new finance minister, once he had been sworn in as an MP. Zuma fired Nene in December 2015 and replaced him with Van Rooyen,

PRETORIA – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to name African National Congress (ANC) deputy president David Mabuza as the country’s deputy in a late night Cabinet reshuffle on Monday, is a “fatal compromise” the Democratic Alliance said.
“Tonight we saw the fatal compromise Cyril Ramaphosa made at Nasrec exposed for all to see, as David Mabuza will be sworn in as the deputy president of South Africa,” DA leader Mmusi Maimane said.

Who is David Mabuza?

In 2005, Mabuza was elected as deputy chairperson of the ANC in the province, which culminated in him being elected as chairperson in 2008.
In the run-up to the ANC’s 2007 elective conference, Mabuza played a key role in Jacob Zuma’s rise to presidency. He was part of a group of provincial leaders called the “Premier League” who were staunch supporters of Zuma.
