By gebrek aan E-Tol, beplan die Wes-Kaapse regering beplan om ‘n provinsiale brandstofheffing in te stel bo en behalwe die nasionale heffing wat deur die regering gehef word.
Dit is klaarblyklik om geld te in om paaie te bou en in stand te hou.
Verskeie organisasies, waaronder OUTA, het hulle kommer uitgespreek oor die moontlike heffing. Motoriste betaal tans reeds R5,30 per liter heffing aan die staat.
Selfs die ANC staan die DA se voorstel teë.
Vir die provinsie, wat sy ergste droogte in meer as 70 jaar beleef, sal die ekstra uitgawe ‘n baie swaar las plaas op boere, besighede en alle ander motoriste.
Reeds in 2006 is daar in ‘n studie getoon dat so ‘n heffing negatiewe gevolge sal hê, maar ten spyte daarvan wil die DA beheerde Wes-Kaapse regering dit tog deurvoer.
