Ramaphosa dares Nigeria to sign free trade deal
Forty-nine African countries have signed the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement, but Nigeria — the continent’s largest economy — is not among them.
South African president Cyril Ramaphosa put pen to paper on behalf of his country at the African Union summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania last month, and has urged Nigeria to follow suit in a speech in Abuja. South African officials have informed the African Union that they expect the deal to be ratified in Parliament by December this year.

Embattled minister in the presidency for women Bathabile Dlamini and Sassa acting CEO Pearl Bhengu have been given until Monday to explain why they should not foot the bill for the CPS contract extension.
Last month, the Constitutional Court gave Dlamini and Bhengu until Monday to explain, via affidavits, why they shouldn’t be held personally liable to foot the bill for the extension of the Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) contract to continue distributing social grants.

NUMSA obtains interdict against Eskom to prevent them signing the 27 (IPP) contracts
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), together with Transform RSA, have obtained an urgent court interdict at the North Gauteng High Court to prevent Eskom from concluding the outstanding renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) products, including the power purchase agreements.
Numsa and Transform RSA launched a late night high court bid yesterday to urgently interdict Eskom from signing the 27 (IPP) contracts on Tuesday.

Sassa and Sapo (mostly) ready on grants
Come April 1, beneficiaries will receive their social grants, but the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will still need the help of Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) to make it happen.
Sassa announced in a joint press conference with the South African Post Office (Sapo) on Thursday that the two had made strides to ensure that South Africa’s 17-million grant beneficiaries will be paid on time.

Interdict granted against ‘no whites and Indians’ funeral body
Durban – Avbob funeral insurers was granted an interdict in the Durban High Court on Tuesday to stop the National Funeral Practitioners Association of South Africa (Nafupa SA) from intimidating its employees or interfering with its business practices.
Since November last year, Nafupa SA has been trying to ban white and Indian funeral practitioners from operating in “township” and “black areas”, saying these must be reserved for black African-owned businesses.

SASSA Saga: There will be chaos if CPS contract is not extended, court hears
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) does not have alternative plans if the court refuses to extend the Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) contract by another six months, the Constitutional Court heard on Tuesday.
“There will be chaos,” Nazeer Cassim, the advocate for Sassa, argued before a full Bench.

Sassa under fire at Constitutional Court
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has come under fire for failing to adequately explain to the Constitutional Court why it waited until the last hour before requesting an extension of the invalid Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) contract.
Sassa is seeking to extend its contract with CPS, to distribute social grants, for a further six months.
