Kaapstad se ontsoutingsaanleg by Strandfontein het begin produseer. Dit beteken dat seewater behandel word om drinkbaar te word, en word daarna in die stad se waterstelsel gepomp. Sogenaamde bruin water word dan eers behandel voordat dit in die see gepomp word.
‘n Ontsoutingsaanleg by die Waterfront is reeds in produksie en ‘n verdere aanleg by Monwasi baai sal binne twee maande in werking wees.
Dié water gaan ‘n verbruiker R40 per kiloliter kos teenoor die R5 van gewone damwater.
Die feit dat die aanlegte in werking kom terwyl Patricia de Lille nog burgemeester is, sal waarskynlik deur haar gebruik word om ‘n saak uit te maak dat sy ‘n goeie burgemeester is.
Intussen het welkome reën in die moederstad uitgesak.

Perlemoen-pakhuis in Kaapstad beroof deur manne geklee in polisie uniforms

Vyf mans in polisie-uniform het Dinsdagoggend vroeg ’n perlemoen-pakhuis in Kaapstad beroof.
Perlemoen waarop beslag gelê is, word in dié pakhuis van die departement van landbou, bosbou en visserye gehou.
Lt.kol. Andrè Traut, ’n polisiewoordvoerder, sê die mans het omstreeks 03:00 in ’n dubbelkajuitbakkie by die pakhuis opgedaag. Hulle het die sekerheidswagte van hul vuurwapens en koeëlvaste baadjies beroof.
Die rowers het ’n klomp perlemoen gesteel en gevlug.
“Gelukkig is niemand beseer nie,” het Traut gesê.
Niemand by die departement se visserye-afdeling het Dinsdag enige navrae beantwoord nie.

Tussentydse burgemeesterskomitee word Maandag in Kaap aangestel

Ian Neilson, waarnemende burgemeester van Kaapstad, gaan Maandag ’n tussentydse burgemeesterskomitee aanstel.
Dit kom nadat Patricia de Lille verlede week uit die DA geskop is en gevolglik haar pos kwyt is en haar kantoor moes ontruim.
Neilson is sedertdien as waarnemende burgemeester aangestel en die ou burgemeesterskomitee is ontbind. Die adjunkburgemeester in sy hoedanigheid as waarnemende burgemeester moet dan ’n nuwe burgemeesterskomitee aanstel.
De Lille het Vrydag die hooggeregshof in Kaapstad gevra om haar afdanking uit die DA en gevolglik as burgemeester van Kaapstad ongedaan te maak.

Die Kaapstadse munisipale busdiens, MyCity, sal ook geen passasiers vervoer terwyl die landswye busdrywer staking aan die gang is nie.
Meer as 17 000 busbestuurders staak landwyd en baie busdienste in stede het tot stilstand gekom.
Die groot struikelblok handel tans oor terugwerkende salarisse.

Die DA het na weke se interne stryd besluit dat Patricia de Lille uit die party geskop moet word.
In antwoord daarop het sy gesê dat sy die besluit in die hof gaan beveg.
Adjunk burgemeester Ian Nelison is intussen aangestel as waarnemende burgemeester maar die party gaan so gou moontlik ‘n nuwe burgemeester aanwys om “stabiliteit” te verkry in die plaaslike regering wat “geskud” is met die geveg met De Lille.
Hierdeur erken die DA dat hul “regering” onstabiel is!

Verskeie paaie in die Kaapse metropool, insluitend Jakes Gerwelrylaan en Highlandsrylaan in Mitchells Plain, is Woensdagoggend weens protesaksies gesluit.
Volgens Wayne Dyason, woordvoerder van Kaapstad se wetstoepassingseenheid, is ’n kitsbank, vrugtestalletjie en motor Woensdagoggend vroeg aan die brand gesteek.
Nóg ’n kitsbank is gevandaliseer en ’n winkel en taxi is met klippe gegooi.
Dit was vroegoggend nog nie duidelik waaroor die protesaksie gaan nie.
*Daar was vroegoggend ook betogings in Eldoradopark en Soweto in Gauteng weens ontevredenheid oor voorafbetaalde elektrisiteitsmeters, maar gemoedere is teen 9:00 gekalmeer.
