Athol Trollip is facing a motion of no-confidence intended to remove him as mayor. Trollip became Mayor in 2016 when the DA formed a coalition with the EFF to take Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Council away from the ANC.
The coalition fell apart in the meantime and the former coalition partner is now tabling the motion against Trollip. This means that Nelson Mandela Bay will probably be returned to the ANC.
The cash-strapped city of Umhlathuze on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is spending an estimated R20-million on a mansion for its mayor‚ Mduduzi Gift Mhlongo.
Durban is becoming a seaside city without any sand as strong waves pummel its beaches and the city’s sand pumping efforts come to naught.
Swathes of what used to be wide stretches of sand are now under water and beachside infrastructure, including a booster pump station at Dairy Beach, is being destroyed.

The Madibeng Mayor, Jostina Mothibe and the Acting Municipal Manager, Morris Maluleka are allegedly in the process of packing their bags for an overseas trip to Malaysia from 7 to 13 February at a cost of R529 595 per person to attend a World Urban Forum.
“The Democratic Alliance has written to the Madibeng(Brits) Mayor, Jostina Mothibe, urging her to reconsider a R1 million overseas trip.
