The Cape is no longer the crime-free area it was and more and more violent crime occurs, especially on tourists, while the DA-controlled Western Cape government is apparently just as incapable of doing something about just like the ANC in the other provinces .
After several hikers was attacked and seriously injured on Table Mountain this weekend, five cyclists from Stellenbosch had a “hell experience” when two men attacked them at the Old Helshoogte Pass with knives and sticks.
The police responded quickly and the two men were arrested shortly thereafter. The cyclists sustained only minor injuries.
During the past weekend, an elderly Stellenbosch farm woman was attacked and assaulted. Mrs. Susan Joubert (87) from the farm Aan-Den-Weg was attacked by three or four terrorists on Sunday afternoon after her two dogs were stabbed. She was robbed and injured and her jewels were stripped of her.
FF Plus’s leader in the Western Cape, Dr. Corné Mulder says the attack is shocking and the police and community of the Western Cape must take action to ensure that farm attacks do not become a common phenomenon in this province.
Dr. Mulder says after the Western Cape for years had largely escaped the evils of farm attacks, there was a flurry of attacks that has continued with a cruel attack last weekend just outside Stellenbosch.
About two months ago, a farmer from Klapmuts near Stellenbosch, Mr. Joubert Conradie, 47, was shot dead on his farm Uitkyk.
Two weeks prior this incident Mr. Mark Fagan (46) was shot at Klein Dassenberg near Philadelphia during an attack.
A few weeks before this attack, a farmer of Ceres in the Cold Bokkeveld was attacked at his farm store and stabbed several times with a knife. He survived the attack.
Dr. Mulder says the Cape has long been breathing over the possibility of farm attacks that have been virtually unprecedented in this province so far. “At this stage it is not yet possible to say whether the attacks are the beginning of a flurry of this kind of crime in the Western Cape. What has happened so far, however, has to make the danger light flashing sharply. ”
The FF Plus wants to encourage local farmers to approach safety in their farms with a new mindset, to sharpen them and to be constantly vigilant as farm attacks can occur anywhere in the country.
