Huge number of ‘medical legal claims’ against health departments – just another sheer sign that the NHI is doomed to failure

The civil rights organisation AfriForum today expressed concern regarding the huge number of medical legal claims against provincial health departments.
Rapport yesterday reported that Kimi Makwetu, the Auditor General, concluded that these claims are much more in seven of the country’s provinces than the various departments’ industry budget for 2018/2019 and subsequently contain large risks for service delivery.
Dr Eugene Brink, AfriForum Spokesperson for health related matters, says these facts are extremely concerning. “These claims weren’t taken into consideration when the budget was compiled and successful claims will thus have to be paid from money that was intended for services. However, it is not only simply the number of negligence claims that is a matter of concern, but also huge amounts of irregular expenditure.

Charges laid, social media racist attacks by SAPS and SANDF members

The civil rights organisation AfriForum today 18 June 2018, submitted criminal charges against two police officials and a former member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) after they used social media to incite farm attacks and/or romanticise violence against farmers and minorities.
AfriForum says that these incidents can be considered a form of complicity by the South African government and that it urgently needs to be tackled by the police to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted.

The civil rights organisation AfriForum has criticised what it calls the premature “conviction” of Nick Mallett and Naas Botha following the walk-out of Ashwin Willemse during a live SuperSport rugby broadcast on Saturday – blaming it on “anti-white” sentiment.
Willemse‚ a former Springbok‚ walked off the set after an apparent disagreement with his co-presenters‚ Botha and Mallett‚ saying he would not be patronised by two individuals who had played in the apartheid era.

Momberg’s sentence shows institutional double standards on racism

AfriForum on Wednesday expressed displeasure at the jail term given to convicted racist Vicki Momberg by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
Momberg will effectively spend two years behind bars as one year of her three-year sentence was suspended on condition that she is not found guilty of committing a similar offence in the next three years.
