The once-powerful Gupta empire is collapsing, with at least eight businesses filing for business rescue this week. This means that the hundreds of millions of rands in this empire have now disappeared.

Parliament’s portfolio committee on mineral resources has called on the mineral resources department to intervene at Gupta-owned Optimum coal mine in Mpumalanga.

Chairperson of the committee Sahlulele Luzipo said the department should gain some certainty on the future of the mine.

“It should also assist in ensuring that workers are paid,” Luzipo said.

PRETORIA – The Hawks have confirmed that a warrant of arrest has been issued for Ajay Gupta but it’s not related to the Estina Dairy Farminvestigation.

The unit’s acting head Yolisa Matakata clarified this aspect related to the case which saw eight suspects appear in court in Bloemfontein a week ago.

Department of Home Affairs on Thursday raided ANN7 studio’s

Johannesburg – The Department of Home Affairs on Thursday confirmed that a routine inspection was undertaken at TV station ANN7’s studios in Midrand.

Earlier on, it emerged that immigration officials had raided ANN7 offices and that officials were currently locked in a meeting with HR managers, who were checking permits.

NPA opposes Atul Gupta’s AFU challenge

Johannesburg – The National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has filed opposing papers in a court application Atul Gupta has lodged to have a preservation order against him set aside.

In an answering affidavit, which was filed in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, prosecuting authorities set out precisely why they say that R10m in Gupta’s personal bank account constituted the proceeds of corruption, fraud and money laundering.

SA's richest woman offers R1.4m reward for Ajay Gupta and Duduzane Zuma

One of the country’s richest women Magda Wierzycka is offering R900 000 of her own money to help authorities track down and arrest Ajay Gupta and Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane who are understood to be fugitives.

She is topping the R500 000 rewards orginially offered by NGO Forensics for Justice. The organisation said it is offering the money because “These people have almost brought South Africa to its knees, it’s now time to bring them to justice. We are offering R100,000 for information leading to the arrest of each one of them and a bonus of R100,000 if the same informant gives information leading to the arrest of all four of them.”
