The situation has got so bad in Brandfort that the VF+ political party has laid a complaint against the despotic municipal manager of the Masilonyana municipality, which serves Brandfort, Theunissen and Winburg in the Free State. Only the ruins of a once proud Bloemfontein, once called Die Rosestad, have remained, and the metro administration is now in a position where it simply can’t manage itself anymore. It is the first metro in the country that has totally collapsed. So says Professor Andre Duvenhage, currently a political analyst at the North West University, who stayed 17 years in Bloemfontein.
