Breaking News: Zuma has finally resigned

President Jacob Zuma has finally resigned, thereby avoiding a motion of no confidence in him which was planned for Parliament this afternoon.

He said during a live television address at the Union Buildings in Pretoria last night that although he steps aside, he doesn’t agree with the decision of the ANC which forced him to do so. Zuma says he doesn’t fear a no-confidence motion or impeachment since they are the lawful mechanisms for South Africans to remove their president. He added that he came to the decision to resign following his recall by the ANC’s National Executive Committee and speculation about his future as president.

Talking on national television‚ Zuma said he was one of those who said Thabo Mbeki should not be recalled, “I was saying we should not recall comrade Mbeki because it will set a bad precedent. Of course I was defeated by the majority.”

JOHANNESBURG – Embattled President, Jacob Zuma was on Tuesday given an ultimatum to resign as head of state or otherwise face a motion of no-confidence in Parliament tomorrow.

ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu and ANC treasurer-general, Paul Mashatile on Wednesday afternoon, announced the decision of the ANC caucus; to announce a motion of no-confidence in the President, scheduled to take place on Thursday.

Zuma says there is no reason for him to resign

President Jacob Zuma has revealed in an interview with the SABC there is no compelling reason for him to resign and he is open to negotiation.

Zuma broke his silence this afternoon after the ANC’s National Executive Committee decided to recall him. In the interview he said he never defined the leadership of the ANC.

The embattled Gupta family is hoping to strike a deal with the Hawks this morning. This follows the Hawks raid on the Gupta family’s Saxonwold compound in Johannesburg early on Wednesday morning.

News of the planned deals‚ which will see their lawyers meeting with the Hawks today‚ follows reports that President Jacob Zuma’s son and Gupta business associate‚ Duduzane Zuma‚ is to hand himself over‚ with his lawyers‚ to the Hawks today.

Zuma recall not worth paper it’s written on, says DA

Cape Town – The letter of recall delivered to President Jacob Zuma by the African National Congress (ANC), the party which deployed him to his post as head of State, is not worth the paper it’s written on, the country’s biggest opposition party said on Tuesday.

“This recall is an internal ANC resolution, and nothing more. It has no effect on Jacob Zuma’s current status as President of the Republic, and can be simply ignored by Zuma. Unless he [Zuma] tenders his resignation, this recall is not worth the paper it is printed on,” said Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane in a statement shortly after the ANC announced its decision to recall Zuma.

Mbete turns down EFF to table motion of no confidence earlier

Parliament – Speaker Baleka Mbete on Monday turned down a request by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to bring forward the debate on their latest motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma as he resists pressure from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to resign.
“The Speaker has responded in the negative,” an opposition source said.
Mbete had scheduled the vote on the motion for the February 22, the day after the government is due to table the national budget for 2018.
But the EFF asked for it to take place earlier after a week of talks between Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa failed to bring the embattled president to resign.

#ZumaMustGo march to Union Buildings is unlawful, warn police

Pretoria – The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) on Monday warned drivers in and around the central business district to exercise caution in the wake of an “illegal” protest march by a group calling themselves concerned members of the African National Congress (ANC) who are demanding the ouster of President Jacob Zuma.

“Tshwane Metro Police Department received a formal application from allies of the African National Congress for a national march scheduled for Monday. In respect of this march, the TMPD could not approve the march, as certain requirements of the Regulation of Gatherings Act 205 could not be submitted in due time,” spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said

A group of ANC members plan to shutdown to pressure Zuma to quit

TSHWANE – A group of African National Congress members in Gauteng on Sunday announced a “national shutdown” to cripple Pretoria through demonstrations from Monday in a bid to put pressure on President Jacob Zuma to quit.

This is despite the Tshwane Metro police saying they did not approve its request to demonstrate.

ANC Regime Postpones Mandela Qunu Visit, 106th Anniversary Rally AND SONA…

Record number of farmers are selling up and leaving amid increasing fears of land grabs

The State of the Nation address was not the only major event postponed this week. The ANC has also postponed its visit to Nelson Mandela’s Qunu homestead in Eastern Cape to lay wreaths at his grave this weekend.

It was agreed with family at Qunu last month that the laying of wreaths would take place on February 11‚ the day Mandela was released from  Robben Island where he served his sentence for terrorism and treason charges.

Instead‚ the ANC’s leadership will be in the Western Cape to commemorate the day.
