It is already clear that SA’s law enforcers, the police, are not fit for purpose, but now the courts themselves are falling apart. Cybercriminals have infiltrated and paralysed the SA court’s network systems, raising fears that the banking details of people and businesses dealing with the courts have been compromised, and may be made public. There have also been widespread outages from many of the government’s websites, after underground internet cables were damaged on Friday. At the same time, the Potgietersrus Magistrate’s Court and detective branch have been without power for four days, after the Mogalakwena local municipality cut off the power due to non-payment.

It seems that the implementation of cadre deployment and BBBEE practices are still taking their toll on the embattled national power provider. Eskom confirmed on Monday that the Medupi power station had an explosion on the number 4 unit’s generator, at around 22:50 on Sunday night, and that unit 5 also tripped as a result.

#StateCapture: Why the fuss about China and Huawei that upsets Trump and Western countries so much? The answer lies in the fact that according to Chinese law, all Chinese companies, privately or state-owned, MUST obey the Chinese Communist Party if the Chinese government asks for user data, or asks the companies to take certain actions. This is the crux of the Tik-Tok ban and worrying enough, we have to ask, what hold does CCP have over Naspers and News24 with their Tencent / Weibo share and also over RAIN and other 5G providers in SA? What Chinese ownership in IOL (Argus & The Star)? With the installation of Chinese technology deep in our society, it gives the Chinese Communist Party access to all the data of citizens in the West, which can then of course be used as a giant espionage (and blackmail?) network by the CCP. Much of the user’s data is also sent via Chinese servers. There’s probably good reason why it’s so cheap. For these reasons, Sweden has now also banned the use of Huawei & ZTE equipment in 5G networks. New legislation that came into force in January required the regulator to consult the Swedish army and the security service to ensure that the use of radio equipment in these frequencies would not “harm” the country’s security. Why does the SA government not care about this possible liability in state security?

If GPs are contracted in to a medical scheme network, they might be pressurised to recommend cheaper treatment options and medications, say SA health bodies.
The Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) and the IPA Foundation (IPAF) is extremely concerned at the comments made recently by the Health Professions Council of South Africa concerning Designated Service Providers (DSPs).
The HPCSA recently released a statement to the effect that healthcare practitioners should be cautious when concluding designated service provider (DSP) agreements with medical schemes as the medical schemes attempted to reduce costs by applying pressure on practitioners within a DSP network to prescribe medication or recommend treatment options, when other more appropriate, albeit more expensive, options were medically indicated and readily available.
