Each ship takes about 36 hours to be loaded with 200,000 tons of coal per ship average. The coal is Grade A anthracite.

Given South Africa’s current economic woes, one would think that China’s recently announced investments in the country — the R33-billion loan from the China Development Bank to Eskom and the R370-billion toward a stimulus package — would have resulted in jubilation.
