Suid-Afrika se gesondheidsektor het tans ’n landswye tekort aan lewensnoodsaaklike entstof wat voorkomend is vir Witseerkeel asook ’n entstof ter voorkoming van klem in die kaak.

Die tekort het ouers nie net gefrustreerd gelaat nie, maar veroorsaak woede en angs omdat hul geliefdes se algehele toestand bedreig word.

Die tekort aan die entstof is ’n ernstige bedreiging vir kinders se gesondheidstoestand en kan lei tot sterftes wat voorkom kon word.

Die mense in afgeleë gebiede moet dikwels lang afstand te voet aflê na klinieke waar hulle die voorkomende entstof kry vir hulle kinders, en word nou woedend omdat hulle telkens aangesê word om maar weer later te kom.

Dit blyk egter dat die tekort nie by verskaffers is nie, maar by die owerhede wat nalatig is om betyds hulle voorraad aan te vul.

SA becoming a third world country, healthcare in shambles – Overcrowding in mortuaries becoming a national problem and health risk

Unfolding investigations have led to the exposure of a national problem of overcrowding in South African mortuaries.

This was the outcome after local business owners, situated near the Middelburg State Mortuary, lost business due to the oppressive smell of decomposition permeating from the morgue.

The bodies of 18 cable thieves who perished in an explosion at the Gloria Mine are now resting in the state mortuary at room temperature, as post mortem procedures continue.

The already decomposed bodies, are withheld from refrigeration as pathologists try to preserve evidence.

It was later discovered that the Middelburg State Mortuary was suffering from overcrowding due to the influx of bodies as well as restricting laws that have been passed on in the previous year.

Forensic teams are struggling to stay afloat after the new laws prevent them from doing more than four autopsies a day, two days a week.

Die Gautengse departement van gesondheid sal waarskynlik ’n reddingsboei moet kry, waarsku die DA.

Jack Bloom, DA-woordvoerder oor gesondheid in Gauteng, sê dr. Gwen Ramokgopa, Gautengse LUR vir gesondheid, het verlede week bevestig die departement is sowat R5 miljard in die rooi.

Bloom het haar op ’n vergadering van die Gautengse wetgewer se gesondheidskomitee oor die departement se skuldlas uitgevra. Die departement het R1 miljard oorbestee en sy skuldlas staan op R4 miljard, sê die DA in ’n verklaring.

Thabo Masebe, woordvoerder van die Gautengse regering, erken “daar is probleme by die departement”.

“Ek verseker jou egter dat die regering wel die probleem hanteer. Ons gee ons volle aandag hieraan.”

Die stabilisering van die departement is volgens hom nie net vir die provinsiale regering ’n topprioriteit nie, maar ook vir dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, minister van gesondheid, en selfs vir pres. Cyril Ramaphosa.

Verstopte dreine, lekkende dakke, stukkende lugversorging en te min matrasse – Dis maar van die uitdagings by die Bophelong psigiatriese hospitaal naby Mahikeng wat in 2016 oopgemaak het en waaraan sowat R450 miljoen reeds bestee is.

Dr. Job Mokgoro, Noordwes se premier, was ná ’n besoek verlede Woensdag aan die hospitaal “geskok” oor die omstandighede daar, het sy woordvoerder, Vuyisele Ngesi, gesê. Die premier is veral bekommerd dat die nie-nakoming van aanvaarbare standaarde en norme onvermydelik sal lei tot die uitbreek van siektes omdat infeksiebeheer nie behoorlik toegepas word nie.

“Personeel se moraal en pasiënte se regte word benadeel omdat die personeel op infrastruktuur-uitdagings fokus pleks van al hul aandag aan die pasiënte te gee,” sê Mokgoro.

ANC-government to open state-owned pharmaceutical company – the idea of this is terrifying since we are all aware of the lack of skill government officials has not to mention a treasury that is lacking funding – How on earth will this move be sustainable?

The South African government plans to establish a competitive state pharmaceutical company in a bid to ‘de-commodify essential medicine supply to meet patient and national fiscal imperatives’.

This was one of the findings in the Presidential Health Summit report which was released to the public last week.

The report mandates that this state-owned company should be ‘innovative, competitive and highly skilled’ – with India provided as a country with a similar company and systems.

Government also plans to support innovative private sector initiatives ‘rooted in social responsibility ethos’ the report states.

While the introduction of a competitive state pharmaceutical company is seen as a medium-term possibility, the idea of a state-owned pharmaceutical company was mooted as far back as 2007.

Motsoaledi: We can’t wait to improve healthcare before implementing NHI

Government does not believe it can wait until the healthcare system is improved before implementing national health insurance, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has said.

The minister was speaking at a briefing at Tuynhuys, Parliament, where the report of the outcomes of the presidential health summit, held late last year, was released.

During his address on Tuesday, Motsoaledi said government would be taking significant steps towards implementing universal healthcare.

Last week, president Cyril Ramaphosa said that the National Health Insurance Bill would be tabled before Parliament this year.

NHI will ensure that South Africans can receive free health services at the point of care at both public and private quality-accredited healthcare service providers, Motsoaledi said.

NHI is a proposed state-run health financing system that aims to pool funds to provide access to quality health services for all South Africans regardless of their economic status.

Motsoaledi het Dinsdag op ’n mediakonferensie waar ’n verslag oor die beraadslaging op ’n spitsberaad oor die krisis in die gesondheidsorgsektor uitgereik is, nie die vraag beantwoord oor of die kabinet die NGV-wetsontwerp al goedgekeur het nie.

Wag en wees geduldig, was dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, minister van gesondheid, se antwoord op ’n vraag oor hoe ver die wetsontwerp oor nasionale gesondheidsversekering (NGV) van klaar is voordat dit in die parlement ter tafel gelê word.

Hy het ook te kenne gegee die oponthoud met die markondersoek na die private gesondheidsbedryf hou tans die wysigingswetsontwerp oor die Wet op Mediese Fondse terug.

“Die benadering was nog altyd wanneer alles klaar is, gaan dit parlement toe en dan word ’n aankondiging gemaak. Dis hoe dit met alle wetsontwerpe is. Ek verstaan nie hoekom dit nou anders moet wees nie,” het Motsoaledi gesê.

Jong dokters, wat deur die ANC regime verplig word om sogenaamde gemeenskapsdiens te doen nadat hulle af studeer, is nou nog nie betaal vir dienste gelewer vir Januarie

Sowat 200 jong dokters wat uitgeplaas is in die Sentraal Transvaal omgewing deur die Gauteng Departement van Gesondheid, is woedend omdat die verskuldigde salarisse nie betaal word nie.

Met die opmerking, “Geen betaling, geen werk” het die jong geleerdes hulle stem duidelik laat hoor nadat die Departement in gebreke gebly het om hulle te betaal.

Die Departement het glo erken dat hulle verwag dat die dokters nie sal opdaag vir werk nie aangesien hulle Januarie vergoeding nie betaal is nie.

Die jong dokters, wat deur die ANC regime verplig word om sogenaamde gemeenskapsdiens te doen nadat hulle af studeer het, is egter daaraan skuldig dat hulle met die dokters se toekoms speel deur hulle nie te betaal vir dienste gelewer nie.

State hospital in KwaZulu Natal invested with monkeys – Monkeys invade kitchen and wards, sometimes even interfering with patients’ intravenous (IV) drips

Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi has appointed a task team to urgently tackle an invasion of monkeys at Durban’s RK Khan Hospital.

Motsoaledi flew to Durban on Wednesday to conduct a site visit at the state facility, which has long been grappling with the primates invading the hospital’s kitchen and, more recently, the wards.

He said he was extremely concerned and decided to take immediate action after watching a video on social media that shows monkeys roaming freely through a ward full of patients.

“The images I saw were disturbing. I just learnt this morning that the hospital was advised by some people who claim to know about monkeys not to interact with them or disturb them because they get aggressive,” said Motsoaledi.

“I don’t accept that type of advice – that monkeys can be just left among human beings, especially sick human beings, out of fear that they will get aggressive.”

National Health Insurance legislation will hit private hospital sector’s future investment and capital expenditure, NHI laws threaten 132,000 jobs

National Health Insurance (NHI), which the government is pushing as the solution to SA’s health crisis, could lead to the loss of up to 132,000 jobs, according to the country’s private hospital groups.

NHI, spearheaded by health minister Aaron Motsoaledi, is the government’s policy for introducing universal health coverage and aims to ensure everyone has access to healthcare that is free at the point of service.

The Hospital Association of SA (Hasa), which represents the private hospital sector, was among the industry groups that presented their views on the risks to the economy at last week’s Business Unity SA (Busa) meeting.

The gathering brought together business and government leaders, who have been trying to forge a closer relationship under the auspices of the Public Private Growth Initiative spearheaded by former politician Roelf Meyer and Toyota Europe and Africa CEO Johan van Zyl.

Eyewitness News spoke to some interns who say that they were told that their January salaries will only be paid on 28 February.

Several Gauteng medical interns and community service doctors have contacted Eyewitness News claiming that they have not been paid their January salaries.

Eyewitness News has seen WhatsApp messages, emails and memos informing the doctors of this decision.

The doctors have been doing their community service at various hospitals in the province.

Eyewitness News spoke to some interns who say that they were told that their January salaries will only be paid on 28 February.

Medical interns at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital say that they were sent a WhatsApp message a day before payment informing them that due to logistical reasons, payments won’t be made therefore they should make the necessary agreements with their banks.

Vrystaat se pasiënte wat afhanklik is van staats medisyne en mediese toebehore gaan ’n ernstige probleem in die gesig staar nadat daar bevind is dat die mediese staatsdepot in Bloemfontein nie die nodige voorraad betyds aan hospitale en klinieke kan lewer nie.

Kopane het gesê die mediese depot voer ’n stryd om medisyne betyds aan Vrystaatse hospitale en klinieke te lewer.
