Johannesburg – The National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has filed opposing papers in a court application Atul Gupta has lodged to have a preservation order against him set aside.
In an answering affidavit, which was filed in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, prosecuting authorities set out precisely why they say that R10m in Gupta’s personal bank account constituted the proceeds of corruption, fraud and money laundering.

Former president Jacob Zuma’s rambling monologue on the SABC on Wednesday afternoon wasn’t just an arrogant, delusional act of defiance in the face of the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) instruction to step down as head of state.

One of the country’s richest women Magda Wierzycka is offering R900 000 of her own money to help authorities track down and arrest Ajay Gupta and Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane who are understood to be fugitives.
She is topping the R500 000 rewards orginially offered by NGO Forensics for Justice. The organisation said it is offering the money because “These people have almost brought South Africa to its knees, it’s now time to bring them to justice. We are offering R100,000 for information leading to the arrest of each one of them and a bonus of R100,000 if the same informant gives information leading to the arrest of all four of them.”

Cyril Ramaphosa is the new president of South Africa after he was elected unopposed in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon.
Ramaphosa was nominated as a candidate by ANC backbencher Patrick Maesela, and the nomination was seconded by his colleague Joan Fubbs.

A Gupta brother and one of their business associates have been arrested by the Hawks‚ sources said.
The arrests follow raids on the family’s Saxonwold compound in Johannesburg early on Wednesday morning by heavily armed Hawks officers.
