‘Horrifying Cruelty By The ANC; Onlookers Shocked in Ward 31 This Morning’

South Africans endure pain, suffering and neglect at Robert Sobukwe Hospital, Kimberley last night and this morning. This photo shows the sick and injured who are forced to lie on cold floors. Many cry in anguish and discomfort, and embarrassment. Their frustration is evident, some wail in pain and frustration, others beg desperately for help from hospital workers, to no avail.

If you are sick or injured, don’t come to Robert Sobukwe Hospital, ANC Ward 31, unless you plan to leave you dignity at the door.

Die stank van sowat 40 ontbindende lyke van ongeïdentifiseerde mense, waarvan sommige al ’n jaar lank in die staatslykhuis in Bloemfontein lê sonder om opgeëis te word, maak die werksomstandighede vir die werknemers daar onuithoudbaar.

Sommige van die yskaste werk nie en die lugversorgers is boonop stukkend terwyl die temperature bedags soms tot by 40 °C klim.

Dié haglike omstandighede is ontdek toe Patricia Kopane, DA-LP en Vrystaatse DA-leier en lid van die portefeuljekomitee vir gesondheid in die parlement, saam met Nomsa Marchesi, ook ’n DA-LP en kiesafdelingshoof vir Xhariep, ’n oorsigbesoek saam met die media aan die lykshuis afgelê het.

Die vrot reuk in die gange van die lykhuis het van die politici en medialede so byna-byna laat naar word.

“Dan verwag hulle dat die personeel elke dag ’n glimlag op hul gesig moet hê,” het ’n geskokte Kopane gesê.

Nurses allegedly ‘ignored’ pleas for help as mom cradled dead infant after suffering a miscarriage, while nurses pay no attention to her and ate their cereal at Groote Schuur Hospital

The Western Government Health Department will be investigating a young mother’s claims that she nearly bled to death after suffering a miscarriage, while nurses ignored her and ate their cereal at Groote Schuur Hospital.

The woman says she lay for seven hours in a heap of blood clots “the size of her fists”, while the dead baby lay between her legs.

Saadijah Samuels Abrahams, 28, of Bridgetown says nurses ignored her desperate cries for help and, afterwards, a cleaner dumped the foetus in a bin.

“I wrapped the baby inside tissue paper and left it at my bedside and when I came back, the nurse said she didn’t know what happened,” she says.

“When my husband was finally allowed inside the ward, he put on gloves and found the baby inside the bin. Can you imagine that? To find your baby inside a bin?”

Saadijah was 14 weeks pregnant with her second child and says she was excited to be giving birth in July.

Catherine Ugoda and her twin granddaughters were admitted to the Louis Trichardt Hospital on 22 December after the taxi they were travelling in crashed into a bakkie on the N1.

An elderly woman who suffered extensive injuries during an accident exactly a month ago says she’s frustrated and disappointed that she’s still waiting for surgery in a Limpopo hospital.

Catherine Ugoda and her twin granddaughters were admitted to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital on 22 December after the taxi they were travelling in crashed into a bakkie on the N1.

She says she was initially told she wouldn’t have surgery at the time because the majority of doctors were on leave.

The Limpopo Health Department says her operation is scheduled for Wednesday.

Ugoda says she would have left the hospital if she had money.

“I’ve been in this bed since 22 December. [Service] at [this] Limpopo hospital is very poor.”

Nuut gekwalifiseerde verpleërs wat die Gautengse departement van gesondheid weens ’n geldtekort nie van plan was om aan te stel nie, gaan nou wel aangestel word

Dié aankondiging is gedoen ’n week nadat die departement gesê het hy gaan nie vanjaar 216 van sy pas gekwalifiseerde verpleërs aanstel nie.

Lesemang Matuka, woordvoerder van die departement, sê hoewel die departement die verpleërs moet aanstel nadat hy die koste van hul studie die afgelope vier jaar gedra het, verhinder die begrotingstekort hom soms om hulle aan te stel.

Matuka sê staatshospitale is opdrag gegee dat die verpleërs in vakante en gefinansierde poste aangestel moet word.

Die ander opsie om die betrokke verpleërs aan te moedig om aansoek te doen om poste in die privaat sektor.

Jack Bloom, DA-woordvoerder oor gesondheid in Gauteng, sê hy verwelkom die departement se besluit, maar hoop dat dit vir al die verpleërs sal geld en dat niemand sonder werk sal sit nie.

Race row erupted in South Africa after recruitment drive for just black doctors – South African officials advertise 100 new doctors, but not for whites

A race row has broken out in South Africa after health officials advertised for 100 new doctors, but did not allow white medics to apply for specialist roles.

The health department in the KwaZulu-Natal province expanded its registrar programme for 2019 from 314 to 414, but aimed to fill the new posts with only black candidates.

Health bosses said the move was implemented to redress the country’s historical racial imbalance of Apartheid that saw most high-ranking positions filed by white doctors.

Campaigners and human rights activists have branded the recruitment policy ‘discriminatory, unconstitutional and racist’.

Leaked documents show the department wanted to train a total of 366 black doctors and had already recruited 32 Indian, 12 white and four mixed race registrars, but need a further 100 black medics to meet employment equity targets.

The registrar programme trains doctors to become specialists over a four-year period.

Die Kompetisie Kommissie se ondersoek rondom Gesondheidsorg se ondersoek het die staat R196 miljoen gekos.

Die vyf paneel lede is as volg vergoed: dr Cees Van Gent van Nederland het R11,7 miljoen ontvang, dr Ntuthuko Bhengu R9,7 miljoen, dr. Lungiswa Nkonki R6 miljoen en prof Sharon Fonn R3,3 miljoen.

Die voorsittende regter Ngcobo het R5, 9 miljoen in die sak gesteek.

Die res van die reuse bedrag is opgeslurp deur operasionele- , regs-, data-, sekuriteit- en media koste.

Government health care system a disgrace – Elderly man from Sasolburg fear for his life after told to only come back to Boitumelo Regional Hospital in 2020 for much needed surgery

A 61-year-old Sasolburg man has been left angered and fearing for his life after being told he has to wait until 2020 before he can have surgery at a hospital in Kroonstad to treat his debilitating condition.

Joseph Morake had already waited seven months for November 30, the initial date of surgery given to him in April this year at Boitumelo Regional Hospital to alleviate the severe swelling in his scrotum – a condition known as bilateral hydrocele.

“To my understanding, if left untreated, this swelling could lead to a hernia or even prostate cancer.

“I already had anxiety throughout the seven months waiting for the surgery meant for last month … At my age, it really isn’t easy. And the swelling was getting enormous, making it difficult for me to sit or even use the toilet,” Morake told City Press this week.

In ‘n verslag van die SA Health Review blyk dit dat die tekort aan menslike hulpbronne die ANC se droom van universele gesondheid dekking kelder. Die verslag toon dat veral die landelike areas ernstige tekorte het aan mediese beamptes.

Syfers toon dat soveel as 106,000 poste reeds in 2010 vakant was vir 14 kliniese gesondheidsprofessies.

Waar en hoe die staat die poste gaan vul is ‘n raaisel en die vermoede bestaan dat gekwalifiseerdes vanuit die buiteland ingevoer sal word om te verseker dat die blankes van Suid-Afrika nie aangestel word nie.

Verkeerde diagnose by Steve Biko- akademiese hospitaal ontaard in lewensgevaarlike kanker wat vrou se hele gesig skend

’n Pretoriase vrou is in skok nadat haar “koorsblaar” in ’n lewensgevaarlike kanker ontaard het wat al groot dele van haar gesig geskend het.

Clara van Heerden (52), van Hermanstad in Pretoria-Wes, beskuldig die dokters van die Steve Biko- akademiese hospitaal dat hulle haar al sedert 2016 verkeerd gediagnoseer het.

Sy sê die dokters daar het aanhoudend gesê sy het ’n infeksie. Hulle het verskeie reekse antibiotika voorgeskryf, maar nooit ’n biopsie gedoen nie.

“Niks het gehelp nie,” sê sy. “Dit was die heeltyd net seer.”

En elke keer was die “koorsblaar” groter.

Sy sê sy is al sedert verlede jaar op ’n waglys om ’n biopsie te kry.

Sowat ’n maand gelede het sy dit met die finansiële hulp van ander in die private sektor laat doen.

Dr. Fritz Hoogendijk, ’n private kaak- en mondchirurg, het twee weke gelede vir haar die uitslag van die biopsie gegee: Sy het nog al die tyd kanker en nie ’n koorsblaar nie.

Buite die lykshuis drom desperate groepies familielede saam om te wag vir ’n geliefde se lyk. Sodra die wind draai, tref die stank jou.

’n Man, wat anoniem wil bly, vertel sy broer is Maandag doodgeskiet in Vosloorus en hy het gekom om hom te kom haal. “Ons hoor by die ander families hier daar is lyke wat al twee weke hier binne lê.

“Wat nou gebeur, is jy moet die werkers omkoop om seker te maak jóú geliefde se lyk is volgende . . .”

Twee verskillende begrafnisondernemers, wat om professionele redes en hul gereelde kontak met dié lykshuis ook nie geïdentifiseer wil word nie, vertel aan Rapport die fasiliteit is chaoties.

Een staan saam met ’n pa in rou wat sy dogter se lyk ná twee weke kom haal, en vertel hy wéét as hy nou ingaan, sal sy al “groen” wees.

’n Ander ondernemer sê die werkers “gee eenvoudig nie om nie’’.

Werkers eis glo hoër lone en kla oor ’n tekort aan beskermende drag.

Refiloe Nt’sekhe of the Democratic Alliance says that public hospitals have become a death-trap for the poor‚ says 

The party has produced this checklist of the top eight problems that it says require urgent intervention‚ following inspection visits to hospitals and clinics over the past month by DA provincial health spokespersons Jack Bloom MPL (Gauteng)‚ Dr Imran Keeka MPL (KwaZulu-Natal)‚ Dr Tutu Faleni MPL (North West) and Langa Bodlani MPL (Limpopo).

1. Chronic staff shortages and long waiting times

All the facilities lacked staff in critical positions.

Livingston Hospital: Dirty hospital linen in plastic bags is piling up and patients often have to bring their own linen from home when hospitalised

The problem, which has been attributed to a broken washing machine and recent strike action at the hospital, has affected three hospitals – Livingstone, Dora Nginza and Provincial – as washing for all three hospitals is done at Livingstone.

Several plastic bags containing dirty linen are lying outside the laundry and while hospital management is trying to make contingency plans, the pile is growing.

Livingstone Hospital board member Pula Lonake said part of the problem could be attributed to recent strikes, with a change in hospital management also playing a role.

“One would expect some abnormality with the previous management going out. With new management in place we will be dealing with it and expect something to happen.

“We have the interest of patients at heart,” he said.

Lonake confirmed this had been the prevailing situation at the hospital for three weeks.

Die staking by die San Michele-tehuis in Brakpan is vir eers opgeskort nadat “een van die pasiënte dood is”, het Ellen Bodoza, woordvoerder van die National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (Nupsaw), gesê. Dié vakbond verteenwoordig die stakers.

Bodoza het Maandag gesê hul lede het by die tehuis vir psigiatriese en gestremde pasiënte gestaak en ’n 6%-loonverhoging geëis.

Die staking het Vrydag begin.

“Hoewel die loonverhoging deur die departement van gesondheid goedgekeur is, het die bestuur geweier om dit te aanvaar. Ons lede is vroeër ingelig oor die sterfte en die staking is intussen opgeskort,” sê Bodoza.

Sy kon nie bevestig of die werkers vandag sal terugkeer werk toe nie.

Intussen sê Marius Bosman, bestuurder van dié tehuis vir psigiatriese en gestremde pasiënt dat die stakers kan nie geblameer word vir die dood van die pasiënt  nie.

This is what the ANC-government did to SA’s health care! – Cancer patients in KZN must wait up to six months for mammogram screening

Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo is on record calling for people to get screened for early detection of cancers.

And late last month, the national and provincial health departments launched a cancer campaign to educate people that many cancers were preventable or could be “successfully” treated through early detection and timeous treatment.

However, more concerns about the KwaZulu-Natal oncology crisis have been raised by advocacy groups after revelations that the waiting period for a mammogram screening is currently more than six months.

At least four women have told the Daily News that they will undergo screening between May 9 and 16 next year. Three said they had gone to uMlazi’s Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital “some months ago” concerned about lumps in their breasts, and to their shock were told to return in May next year for mammograms.

The fourth woman had since been told at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital that she had cancer.
