“AfriForum will use the money to fight expropriation without compensation and land grabs in court.”
Civil rights organisation AfriForum will spend the money it was awarded in costs against Julius Malema and the EFF to fight expropriation without compensation and land grabs in court.
This after the North Gauteng High Court this week made two punitive cost orders in favour of AfriForum against the red berets.
The first order amounts to R126 703 in legal fees while the second order amounts to R200 000.
The cost orders stem from lawsuits that AfriForum brought against Malema and the EFF to obtain a court order to prevent them from inciting people to illegally occupy or trespass on land.
The North Gauteng High Court ruled on 7 March 2017 in AfriForum’s favour and granted the interdict with costs.

Malema and the EFF then brought an application to set the interdict aside, which was heard on Monday.
The case was postponed after Malema and the EFF’s heads of argument were submitted late.
Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, welcomed the order saying it sent a clear message that no-one was above the law.
“AfriForum will use the money to fight expropriation without compensation and land grabs in court,” Kriel says.
AfriForum has already obtained five cost orders against Malema and the EFF since March 2017.
