Getting a degree is what most parents push their children to do because it will secure them a better future. However, with South Africa having one of the highest unemployment rates in Africa, Mzansi is wondering if it’s worth it.
South Africa is at the top of the list of African countries with the highest percentage of unemployed people. More than 1/4 of the individuals in the country who are capable of working are not employed.
With that said, it’s not hard to believe that people are debating whether formal education is worth getting into student debt. So many students don’t find work in their chosen fields immediately after completing their studies and have to follow an entirely different path than planned.
To get rich in Mzansi, you need to go to school, get a degree… then put them ASIDE and HUSTLE like a DROPOUT!!! – Other social media users were in agreement.
“Its really a sad situation….. Such waste of time and money studying only to pack the degrees away. How do we make awareness for the coming generation? They can’t suffer like we are….”
” …. studying apparently doesn’t matter in the end: “So we went to school to learn that none of it matters in the end.”
Unemployment remains a big problem in South Africa, and it is hoped that the government will do something about it sooner rather than later.
However, nobody seems to be getting their hopes up.
