A man (55) was attacked in his house at the Shishingwe Lodge, a private reserve in the Lydenburg area in Mpumalanga on Monday night.
Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum, said the incident occurred when attackers threw a stone through a window. Leonard Visagie laid on the couch in front of the television, and the stone hit him.
Sergeant Gerald Sedibe, Police Spokesperson, said the incident occurred at about 23:15. According to Sedibe, the attackers gained access to the house through a broken window and pointed a firearm at Visagie. They demanded his keys and his bank card’s PIN numbers.
Sedibe said Visagie’s wife and grandson were sleeping in rooms on the top floor of the house at the time of the incident.
“The suspects managed to get the keys from the safe and fled with three firearms in the man’s double cab with the registration number DC75 LM GP,” he said.
Visagie was taken to a hospital for medical treatment after the incident.
A case of ho home invasion and robbery is being investigated. No one has as yet been arrested in connection with the incident.
