After the marathon testimonies delivered at the State Capture Inquiry by various Bosasa officials, it seems like the time for talk has concluded.
According to the Sunday Times SARS are now primed and ready to go after the illegal beneficiaries of the security services’ bribery operation, and Jacob Zuma could well be on their hitlist.
Earlier in the year, it was alleged that Msholozi accepted a R300 000 bribe from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson. The accusation was made by Angelo Agrizzi, whose testimony to the commission sent shockwaves across the nation.
Jacob Zuma and Bosasa bribery
However, it’s not just this particular negotiation that has come under scrutiny. It’s understood the tax firm is looking to reclaim around R1 million from The Jacob Zuma Foundation – a charity organisation that the former president is patron of. Dudu Myeni, the chairperson of the fund, is also set to feel the heat.
Myeni was also implicated in the bombshell testimony, where it was alleged that she accepted R300 000 monthly bribes. As well as the Jacob Zuma connection, SARS are also reportedly chasing down the following ANC members:
Nomvula Mokonyane: Could be liable for R924 000, after receiving gifts and groceries from the well-oiled bribery machine.

Nomgcobo Jiba: The ex-NPA official is wanted for an outstanding R2.3 million.
Lawrence Mrwebi: Jiba’s partner in crime is looking at a less-hefty amount, and he’s said to owe R235 000.
Vincent Smith: The ANC MP will have questions to answer over an illicit R56 000.
Gwede Mantashe: The minister has been fighting allegations that he accepted security upgrades for free from Bosasa. It’s thought he will be liable for R84 000.
Who else will SARS target?
Other political figures on SARS’ radar include Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who has been very open about the money he received from Bosasa to fight his legal battles. The leader of the African Content Movement may soon be asked to repay more than R333 000 in illicit fees. It’s also believed that Bosasa’s implicated officials are also set for a hiding.
Former prisons boss Linda Mti, ex-correctional services commissioner Zack Modise and previous correctional services CFO Patrick Gillingham are all set for investigation as well. Mti and Gillingham – along with Agrizzi – are currently facing trial for corruption after Bosasa’s dodgy deals were revealed to the public.
The pursuit of The Jacob Zuma Foundation could just be the tip of the iceberg for SARS, who are aiming to collect R250 million from the entire operation.
