Max du Preez proclaims that all white South-Africans are actually coloured. And now all the people are angry about it.
We are not angry. It’s no shame to be a coloured, so if Max feels he wants to be a Coloured, that’s his problem. The colouring is just as much of this country as any other, just as much of a right of existence and a right to identity, freedom and prosperity as any other.
We are years past the point we judge according to those classifications. We judge according to a man’s actions, integrity, popularism and patriotism. The Afrikaner does not need to explain why he is white or brown or whatever. The Afrikaner knows when he is an Afrikaner.
Max is not wrong. His predecessor, Philippus du Preez, was indeed connected in 1727, according to the former Cape Marriage Register, to an exempt slave named Isabella. Her first marriage was with a European Potgieter.
We will not really discriminate against Max because he is now a coloured. We will continue to differ from him because he obsesses with the purpose of shrinking our nature and being, and reducing the Afrikaner. The fact that Max is now a coloured, makes it much easier to understand why he does what he does, than it was to understand when he was just another white Afrikaner.
