About 2 000 residents came together outside the Kagiso police station in protest against conditions in the neighbourhood with specific reference to drugs, crime and trafficking in human beings.
The police made use of rubber bullets to restrain the people.
The usual burning of tires and junk blocked the streets while the police were accused of conspiracy with drug gangs.
In the nearby Munsieville area ,the rioters attempted to burn down the local police station. The central business area of Krugersdorp was under lock-down out of fears of plundering.
Meanwhile, several houses occupied by foreigners whom to believe are drug holes have been set alight.
Mr. Jaco Mulder, FF Plus leader for Gauteng, said public violence against drug trafficking was the result of years of poor policing.
“The police in Krugersdorp have already failed to act on drug dealers operating in the central business district for many years now.
“The FF Plus requests the Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange and the MEC for community safety, Mr. Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, were asked to intervene immediately because the local police have failed clearly in his police mandate, “Mulder said.
