Law enforcement in Gauteng is cracking down on poor performing police stations.
The 2017/2018 crime statistics show that the country’s economic hub has the highest number of serious crimes reported.
When compared to other provinces, Gauteng remains South Africa’s crime capital; with over 470 000 serious crimes reported in 2017/2018.
Law enforcement authorities in the province gathered in the West Rand on Wednesday in a bid to find solutions.
The Department of Community Safety says underperforming police stations continue to blemish crime fighting efforts but, it says it has managed to reduce the number of poor performing stations from 40 to eight.
Kagiso police station is one of those stations that has been labelled as stubborn.
The list also includes Akasia, Ivory Park Tembisa, Kempton Park, Krugersdorp, Dobsonville and Honeydew.
Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane says the department has a number of strategies in place where the underperforming stations must produce delivery reports.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Deliwe De Lange says the launch of the Buya Mthetho campaign in August is producing results.
However, the struggle continues for provincial community safety authorities to find lasting crime prevention solutions for Gauteng.
