A man was shot on Wednesday in the early hours in front of his six-year-old daughter and his fiancé when burglars gained access to their house on a farm in Leeuwfontein near Roodeplaat, Pretoria.
Jonty Jacobs (28) was shot several times when he shouted at the attackers.
He was taken to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in a critical condition.
“He woke up between 02:00 and 03:00 when someone tried to open the window of the window,” said Ian Cameron, civil society organization AfriForum’s head of community security.
“He has been hit more than once, probably also in the spine.
“They became engaged a week or two ago,” he said.
Sgt. Police spokesperson Portia Maleka said police responded to the incident at 03:00 on Wednesday.
She says a number of attackers have gained access to the house through a window in front of the house.
“When they were inside the house, they found Jacobs inside the house. He was shot in the upper body. ”
Maleka said the robbers had two cellphones stolen and Jacobs fiancé’s handbag stolen. They fled on foot.
“No one has been arrested so far. The police are investigating a charge of robbery and attempted murder. ”
She appeals to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers to call the Kameeldrift police station on 012 819 8200.
