The ANC government, under the leadership of the Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa), yet again allowed Eskom to adjust its electricity supply tariffs, unrealistically high.
The 15% that Eskom wanted was not granted, but in 2019 consumers will pay 9.4% more, and by 2020 the price will rise by 8.1% while an increase of 5.2% will apply for 2021.
This will increase annual revenue by R784bn, and experts point out that Eskom usually doubles the increase in their applications, and then receives more than is really needed.’
