An amaBhungane exclusive has revealed that Gupta-owned Tegeta has repeatedly failed to deliver enough coal.
Leaked documents have revealed that Eskom is warning it might have to close its Hendrina power station, possibly plunging the country into another period of load shedding.
An amaBhungane exclusive has revealed that Gupta-owned Tegeta, which bought the Optimum Coal Mine in April 2016, has repeatedly failed to deliver enough coal.
Eskom, however, says that despite the challenges being experienced at Hendrina, it will ensure that the power system is not compromised.
According to amaBhungane, Eskom was planning to burn the coal bed this week as it has run out of supplies needed to power the 2,000-megawatt Hendrina power station.
Like its predecessors, Tegeta is demanding a higher coal price and Eskom, on the verge of load shedding, has threatened legal action.
At the same time, amaBhungane says that two sources, one from Eskom and another from the mine, allege that Tegeta has been exporting coal while starving Eskom of the coal it is legally entitled to.
