A Gauteng man is in a critical condition after a hijacking occurred on a smallholding in the west of Pretoria on Monday. It is believed that the man was severely assaulted with an iron rod.
Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum, said the incident happened on a smallholding in the Zandfontein area at about 06:50.
According to Cameron, the man, apparently, 70 years old, was on his way to the smallholding workshop when he was attacked and assaulted by two suspects. The suspects fled the scene with the man’s vehicle.
The vehicle was later found in Cosmo City, but no-one was arrested in connection with the incident.
Cameron said emergency services and police officers were called to the scene and the man was treated to the scene before being rushed to a hospital. It is reported that the man has sustained critical injuries, but at the moment there are still tests to be done to determine the exact extent of his injuries.
