A political party attracts the kind of supporters it deserves. With less than seven months left before the general election of 2019, the loud-mouthed boy from Seshego’s party is facing serious legitimacy problems.
Malema and Shivambu of the EFF are embroiled in serious allegations regarding corruption around the VBS saga and the GladAfrica contract in Tshwane. To add to this, trade union Numsa registered a political party of their own yesterday – a serious blow to both the EFF and ANC. Tax evasion charges against Malema and a civil warrant by Afriforum against the EFF are other woes facing the irresponsible and immature party.
But more and more the rogue elements attracted to the EFF by Malema and Shivambu are being exposed, causing red faces to the red overalls. The chickens are coming home to roost for the party which has become an embarrassment to any South African with more than two brain cells.
Cllr. Daniel Mampeule (Ward 6 Thabazimbi) was arrested for leading a gang “that hides on street corners and robbed local residents of their belongings, especially at night”; and also for the robbery of a liquor store.
And in Lenasia Extension 13 the “land expropriation party” EFF members Nancy Thwala and Enoch Nhlazane almost traded blows over a small piece of land on Friday. Enoch claimed he had bought the land 10 years ago and that Nancy was trying to steal it. He said he paid R20 000. Nancy said the land belonged to her. Enoch claimed that a senior EFF member fraudulently sold the land to Nancy.
“I have been to the party’s office to get help and even wrote to commander Julius Malema with no success,” said Enoch.
The problem of the top management of a political party influencing the behaviour of the ordinary supporter is becoming more and more of a problem in South African politics as greed, corruption and nepotism are filtering through all levels.
