A COUPLE were hijacked by three armed men who pulled them over using blue lights on the M4 near Pebble Beach, Sibaya. The couple were travelling towards Durban when the incident occurred.
According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the couple who were from Gauteng, assumed the vehicle was an unmarked police vehicle and pulled over.
“The couple were travelling from Sibaya Casino to Durban. They noticed a white golf 5 with an unknown registration with blue lights on the dashboard. They stopped the vehicle assuming it was an unmarked police vehicle.
“Three suspects, one of which was armed with a pistol, got out of the vehicle, and pointed it at the driver. The suspect assaulted the victim’s wife striking her over her head. They demanded the couple to get out of the vehicle. They then fled with the victim’s vehicle, a silver BMW, and the vehicle used to commit the crime. They suspects also stole cash and two cell phones,” he said.
The suspects are still at large and the hijacked vehicle is still missing.
The incident comes a day after a couple from the UK were robbed by men wielding a bush knife on the N2. It is alleged the suspects had placed a piece of metal on the N2 freeway to cause a vehicle to have a puncture.
