It has been for more than 100 days since the Special Investigation Unit (SOE)’s damnation report was disclosed in which the ANC chief whip in Gauteng’s legislature, Brian Hlongwa, is involved in R1,2 billion corrupt operations, the DA said.
“We measured it every day with our Hlongwa monitor which shows 101 days have expired today,” said Jack Bloom, DA spokesperson, “but Gauteng’s premier David Makhura has not yet dismissed Hlongwa. ”
On July 28, 2014, reports shows that the allegations against Hlongwa were reported d to the ANC’s Provincial Integrity Commission, but nothing happened since then, Bloom said.
Earlier this year, the ANC’s Gauteng secretary, Jacob Khawe, said Hlongwa would be charged before the ANC’s Provincial Integrity Commission led by Trevor Fowler from 11 to 15 August.
“Meanwhile, Hlongwa has been re-elected as a member of the ANC’s provincial executive committee, together with former MEC for health, Qedani Mahlangu, who was also shamed and who was supposed to appear before the Integrity Commission in connection with the [Life] Esidimeni trick, “said Bloom.
He said in the SOE report that “statecapture” occurred when a private company took over the management functions of the Gauteng health department and awarded suspicious tenders of more than R1,2 billion with alleged rewards for Hlongwa.
The department still did not recover from this dark period, which was the cause of the current crisis in Gauteng’s public health sector. “It is a disgrace that the ANC fails to take on action against Hlongwa, who earns more than R1,4 million a year as a main whip,” Bloom says.
