The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) of the elderly Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has lost a lot of support over the past few years, and the leader believes the Jacob Zuma is to blame.
He says many of his followers supported Zuma because he was the country’s president and also president of the ANC.
He believes it has made the proud Zulus decide to support the country’s president, who is also a Zulu.
The Zulus have apparently decided to support President Zuma as they have learned that parliament and government are dominated by Xhosa members.
However, political analysts point out that the IFP leader, who has already passed the 90-year mark in years, is probably the biggest reason for the lot of support his party has lost.
There is a strong suspicion that IFP will eventually disappear as a political structure after Buthelezi’s retirement.
Mangosuthu Buthelezi later announced that he is now retiring and a new party leader will soon be elected.
