Multichoice has reportedly lost 23,000 subscribers following the ongoing fight with Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr.
An IT technician and a data analyst who works for Multichoice leaked the following information. Both of them wish to remain anonymous because they are actually rooting for Hofmeyr. “As of Friday 5:30 PM Multichoice lost over 23 000 official subscribers and more than 36 000 decoders where offline which means more cancellation might be following”.
This all started after Hofmeyr posted a video of himself cancelling the service and destroying his decoder on his facebook page.
Hofmeyr promised R10,000 to one person who records themselves destroying their decoder and in only a few hours multichoice lost of 3000 subscribers.
The singer led his fans by example when he took a video of himself canceling his subscription and then destroying his decoder (watch follow-up postings for the video content)
He posted a video on Facebook of himself cutting ties with DStv in a very dramatic fashion.
“Yes, you can’t boycott everything and everyone, but I’m going to try. I’m done with MultiChoice, all their channels, including kykNET and Showmax, as well as Media24 (stop trying to phone me) and a few others that I will name later,” read part of Steve’s online rant.
MultiChoice earlier on Thursday declined to add anything to their previous statement on the matter. Naspers, of which Media24 is a subsidiary, earlier this year completed the unbundling of its shares in MultiChoice Group (MCG). Channel24 has reached out to Showmax and kykNET for comment and will update the article as soon as it becomes available.
This morning the multichoice call centre is hot with his fans unsubscribing and at this time our insider can confirm that over 23 000 people have called to unsubscribe the same way Steve did, they are all saying the reason is that multichoice is racist.
