Despite outrage by the ANC as well as pretty much every other opposition party and South African, Brian Molefe has been reinstated as Eskom CEO, just a few months after quitting — in the wake of his name appearing on the State of capture report alongside the Guptas and several other Zuma allies within the ANC — the utility and being made an MP.
As bizarre as that sounds, the ruling party itself couldn’t even stop the man from getting his old job back and even more bizarre is the reception he got on Monday morning. Much like the SABC’s former ‘dear leader’ Hlaudi Motsoeneng, it would seem Molefe enjoys a form of celebrity status within Eskom — something he would never have had as an MP –.
While the ANC has summoned public enterprises minister Lynne Brown to Luthuli House to explain why Molefe’s back at Eskom, and the DA moves to have the courts dismiss his reappointment; it seems the man himself is having quite the party.
Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s State of capture report fingered Molefe alongside several other dodgy ANC members as having visited Saxonwold, where the Gupta have their compound. When probed about the accusations, Molefe started crying and not long after resigned as Eskom CEO.
Odd then that he’d be back so soon.
