Joel Stransky hospitalised after cycling crash in Cape Epic Cycle Race

Former Springbok flyhalf Joel Stransky, known for slotting the drop goal which broke the hearts of All Blacks fans at the 1995 World Cup, was left bloodied after falling in a cycling accident in South Africa.

Riding in the 2017 Absa Cape Epic, Stransky crashed out of the event when he went down in Sunday's 26km Prologue stage at Meerendal Wine Estate.

The 49-year-old was left with a bloodied face and was taken to hospital with a broken rib and punctured lung.

The event was Stransky's eighth Cape Epic and he was being partnered by former Sharks centre Jeremy Thomson, also 49, in the Grand Masters category.

After the fall Stransky joked online that he would need plastic surgery to save his good looks...
