The police in Kuruman have recovered a safe with firearms in the bushes at Hotazel outside Kuruman on 26 July 2017, late in the afternoon. The safe was found by community members who were collecting firewood.
The safe was containing various caliber firearms and various assorted rounds of rounds of ammunition.
The rounds found are are for a .38 special revolver, R1 rifle, R5 rifle, 308 rifle, 303 rifle, 22 long rifle.
The safe was reportedly stolen during a burglary residence between 8 and 9 July 2017.
During the housebreaking, six firearms, that is five rifles and . 38 special revolver were stolen. Jewellery worth thousands of rand was also stolen.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Major General de Waal has lauded the discovery. She pointed out that the firearms could have been used in heinous trio crimes such as carjackings, house and business robberies.
The Trio Task Team has launched an intensive search for the suspects who are still on the run with the .38 special revolver and jewellery.
