A man has been killed trying to protect his family during a house robbery in Suiderberg, west of Pretoria.
Hansie Goosen (40) a motor vehicle dealer, his wife and their 13-year-old daughter were at home on Monday evening when robbers broke in.
According to a relative, Goosen was sleeping in his bed and his wife was watching TV.
“He died trying to protect his family,” said the relative.
Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said: “The victim was shot in the chest by four unknown men inside his home around 23:10 on Monday evening. The men broke a window to gain entrance into the house.
“The deceased’s wife alerted her husband who woke up to close the security gate when he was shot.
“Paramedics certified him dead at the scene,” Msimango said.
“The robbers took jewellery, Samsung cell phone, a television set and a firearm before they fled the scene.”
