Members of Parliament (MPs) who attended the State of The Nation Address have shied away from speculating on a possible Cabinet reshuffle.

Although this was something some opposition party MPs wanted President Cyril Ramaphosa to touch on during his speech, he didn’t mention it.

Opposition parties give mixed reviews for Ramaphosa’s speech

Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation of Address (SONA) has received mixed reviews from opposition parties, with somearties give mixed rev welcoming his efforts to deal with corruption and reducing the size of government departments.

Ramaphosa gave his first SONA without any interruptions from opposition benches on Friday night.

Opposition parties react to Zuma’s resignation

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it is “rejoicing” at the news that Jacob Zuma has resigned as president, while the United Democratic Movement says “good riddance”.

Zuma announced on Wednesday evening that, although he does not agree with this decision, he will resign as president of the republic effective immediately.

“Take It To The Streets”: Opposition Parties Plan To Force Zuma’s Exit

Opposition parties are discussing a joint plan to push the ANC into recalling President Jacob Zuma- including a call for their supporters to take to the streets.

The UDM’s Bantu Holomisa flighted the possibility‚ saying: “#RemoveZumaMarch. South Africans‚ let’s discuss the possibility of taking to the streets on 22 February 2018‚ the day of Zuma’s vote of no confidence in Parliament. We can’t rely on a divided ANC.”

“We must never forget that it has never been the ANC’s plan to remove Zuma‚ hence they are pussyfooting‚” said Holomisa. “In fact we should scrap the state of the nation address (Sona) altogether to avoid a double wastage. Let’s rather focus on the budget and the no confidence debate on Zuma.”
