300 School Teachers Fail Grade 3 English in South Africa

Three hundred primary school teachers will be sent for training after a language test in English as a first additional language failed to Grade 3 pupils.

According to the Department of Basic Education we should not really be too shocked, because English is not the home language of many teachers.

The Zenex Foundation found that teachers in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Natal, whose skills were tested in English, are comparable to those of a Grade 3 pupil.

The foundation has apparently gone to great lengths to establish what exactly caused a headache for teachers in English.

More than R1 billion is budgeted by the department for the training of teachers.
